Vadim Tkachenko co-founded Percona in 2006 and serves as its Chief Technology Officer. Vadim leads Percona Labs, which focuses on technology research and performance evaluations of Percona’s and third-party products. Percona Labs designs no-gimmick tests of hardware, filesystems, storage engines, and databases that surpass the standard performance and functionality scenario benchmarks.

Vadim’s expertise in LAMP performance and multi-threaded programming help optimize MySQL and InnoDB internals to take full advantage of modern hardware. Oracle Corporation and its predecessors have incorporated Vadim’s source code patches into the mainstream MySQL and InnoDB products.

He also co-authored the book High Performance MySQL: Optimization, Backups, and Replication 3rd Edition.

  Peter,

  Current limitation is that you may need several tries to come up with proper working
  command line.
  Also some file paths may not work, i.e C:tmp will be treated as “C:[tab]mp” and you
  will need to change it to C://tmp (including in my.ini).

  We tested with ActivePerl version for Windows.

  Hopefully this will save someone else some time: I didn’t realise at first that this binary is specific for MySQL 5.5+ since the on-disk format for InnoDB has changed since 5.1.

  i’m looking for a mature version of xtrabackup or innobackupex for windows, but just found this post. and having “alpha release of xtrabackup 1.6”. i just want to ask, if something has done on this version in a span of 5 years, as it is november 2016?

    As you see you are the first asking since 2011. We had no further work on Windows since that.

      i am working on a project which is windows based and no one is asking about it since 2011.
      But luckily got your response, thank you for it.

      just want to confirm couple of things

      1. if “xtrabackup 1.6 try me edition” is capable of taking streamed backup or is there any other way to do it?

      as we can do it in
      innobackupex with –stream option?

      2. any future plan in percona to provide windows based solution?

        1.6 was released so long time ago, I do not remember what features it had, and in any case, I would never recommend to run this old software for anything serious.

        At this time we do not have plans for Windows, but this may change if we see the demand for windows binaries.
