Following last week's reveal at Summer Game Fest Kickoff

Developer Ska Studios revealed the sequel to the critically-acclaimed soulslike action RPG Salt and Sanctuary last week during Summer Game Fest. Introduced by Sony's Shuhei Yoshida, the game is called Salt and Sacrifice and it's set for release on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in Q1 2022.

The fact that Salt and Sacrifice is an indie game will be reflected in the price, which is set to just $19.99. It's also worth noting that the game will be localized in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Now, for those of you who player Salt and Sanctuary, the upcoming sequel will feel very familiar, as developers have used the same art style, animations, and combat mechanics. However, everything seems to have been turned up a notch or two.

To make it easier for those on the fence to decide whether or not Salt and Sacrifice would be something they would want to play, the fine folks at Ska Studios have just released a 10-minute gameplay video that shows off many of the game's mechanics.

We also get to see the game's brawler-style combat from the perspective of a Paladin, one of the eight starting classes. Salt and Sacrifice explores a new era and region, as well as a new role – a Marked Inquisitor, a criminal condemned, yet spared the hand of justice in exchange for a lifetime of service in the unending war against Mages.

To better understand what Salt and Sacrifice brings to the table in comparison with the previous title, here is what Ska Studios' James Silva had to say about the game:

For those of you who have played Salt and Sanctuary, imagine pursuing The Queen of Smiles through the village: she summons two rotten crossbowmen, retreats, stumbles right into The Sodden Knight, scraps it out with him for a bit, retreats again, summons a bronze knight and launches a salvo of swords at you before retreating to her lair, where — cornered, desperate, fierce — she awaits you, for a final battle from which there is no escape. It’s a chaotic dance of blades and bolts, swords and spells.”

Furthermore, Salt and Sacrifice will have solid online multiplayer, which is also shown in the extended gameplay video. It's also important to note that the game is made by a two-person studio.
