This update is aimed at insiders in the Dev channel

Microsoft has just released a new cumulative update as part of the Windows Insider program, though worth knowing is the company is still working on testing its servicing pipeline, so no big changes are included.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB5004123 bumps the OS build number to 21390.2025, and it is available right now for anyone who is running Dev builds in the Windows Insider program right from Windows Update.

As you could easily figure out from the OS build number, this cumulative update is specifically aimed at Windows 10 build 21390, the latest major release for the Dev channel.

What’s new in Windows 10 build 21390

Windows 10 build 21390 comes with two important changes, and one of them is the addition of Fluent icons for the Task Manager and MSI installers. As you know, Microsoft has been working on giving Windows 10 a modern touch, and rolling out new icons was part of the efforts.

With this build, the Task Manager and MSI installers are both getting new icons, with more OS components likely to get the same treatment in the coming months.

And second of all, this new build included new options to be able to set Windows Terminal Preview as the default terminal emulator on Windows 10, as long as you are running version 1.9.

“You can now set Windows Terminal Preview as your default terminal emulator on Windows! This means that any command line application will launch inside your selected terminal emulator (i.e. double click on PowerShell and it will open inside Windows Terminal Preview by default). This setting is currently in the Windows Insider Program Dev Channel build and can be found inside the console property sheet. We have also added this setting to the settings UI in Windows Terminal Preview,” Microsoft explained after the Build developer conference last month.
