Topic: Learning Rust as a Python/Javascript developer

I started learning Rust in December last year by building a command-line tool to display NHL results on the terminal. My background before Rust has been mostly on Python and Javascript ecosystems so there's been quite a learning curve that has required activating new parts of my brain.

In this talk, I'll share my early learning journey with Rust. I'll talk openly about the things I struggled with and the things I fell in love with in Rust (like pattern matching
Smiling face with heart-shaped eyes
).

For experienced Rust developers, I aim to provide new insights and ideas from a fresh perspective and for new developers, I aim to inspire others who are in a similar situation learning Rust.

Speaker Juhis:

Juhis is a developer community builder, web developer and programming teacher from Helsinki, Finland. He has a background in web development in fast-growing startups, experience in building communities for startups and developers and a passion for inclusive communities.

You can find him from meetups and conferences or from the Internet experimenting with fun projects and new technologies. Through the startup world, he's also been exposed to a fair share of service design and often likes to debate whether something should be built at all.

Schedule:

6:00pm - Meetup begins, hang out
6:15pm - Stream starts - whats new with Rust
6:30pm - Recording starts - Talk starts
