Siemens acquires Supplyframe. We DM’ed Siemens and emailed our Hackaday / Supplyframe contacts to see if Siemens also acquired Hackaday and Tindie (we will update this post when/if we find out). Congrats to all the teams, wow!

Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Supplyframe, a leading Design-to-Source platform for the global electronics value chain, for USD 0.7 billion. The acquisition also strengthens the Siemens portfolio through Software as a Service (SaaS) – not only in the field of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) and Printed Circuit Boards (PCB), but also scaling into other domains and technology fields.

The expected revenue of Supplyframe for the fiscal year 2021 is around $70 million with profit margins typical for the software business.

Disclosure: I started hackaday, made the site/logo, it was part of weblogsinc, that was sold to AOL (hackaday was not), but I did not have anything to do with that, and later it was later sold to supplyframe. I am just a founder that is now a reader of hackaday.

Update! 5/19/2020 Siemens press folks tweeted back!

Thank you for reaching out @adafruit. @Hackaday und @Tindie are websites of @Supplyframe, and thus also part of the acquisition. Hackaday in particular is a community exchange website for engineers and developers.

Update! 5/20/2021 Siemens PR wrote back and sent me the contact info. I emailed them and asked to interview the Siemens folks in the press release, SupplyFrame folks and/or Hackaday/Tindie. We’ll see what they say!
