Generally, an OTP (one-time password) message shouldn't be there on your phone once you've used the OTP. To help you trash these messages, Google Messages is bringing a feature that will auto-delete your OTP messages after 24 hours of receiving the message.

Automatically Delete OTP Messages in Google Messages

As first spotted by XDA Developers, the latest beta version of Google Messages brings with it the ability to automatically find and delete OTP messages on your phone.

This removes the hassle of manually finding and removing such messages from your device.

While the feature is currently still in beta, it wouldn't be too long before you see it in stable releases of the app.

How OTP Auto-Deletion Can Help You

These days, a lot of apps and websites send you an OTP to confirm your identity. Many of us either forget or do not care about deleting these OTP messages, even if we've used the OTP already.

This is exactly the problem Google is trying to fix with their updated Messages app.

Using the new auto-delete feature, you can now allow Google Messages to detect and remove OTP messages from your phone automatically. Your messages are deleted after 24 hours of receiving them, and this gives you plenty of time to use your one-time passwords.

How to Enable Automatic OTP Deletion in Google Messages

You'll have a toggle to turn the automatic OTP deletion feature on and off, and you won't be forced to use the feature if you aren't interested in it.

To use this feature, you'll need to open Google Messages and head into settings. Then, you'll need to open the Message organization menu and turn the Auto-delete OTPs after 24 hrs option on. This will enable the feature for you..

Sort Your Messages by OTPs in Google Messages

Another useful feature you're going to see in newer Google Messages builds is a new sorting option. You'll now be able to sort your text messages by OTPs, which will make it easier to quickly access all your messages that contain a one-time password.

You can then manually get rid of these messages, in case you don't prefer the auto-delete option.

Get Rid of OTP Messages Automatically With Google Messages

OTP messages aren't supposed to be stored forever, and Google Messages will soon let you delete these messages automatically on your phone. It'll give you enough time to process your OTPs before the messages are deleted.
