去年疫情流行期间采取的限制措施让社交活动降低到了最低程度，视频通话成为许多人主要的沟通方法，但视频并不能真正让人感觉到有一个活生生的人在面前。Google 通过 Project Starline 试图解决这个问题。Google 研究人员在这个项目上工作了好几年，综合利用了计算机视觉、机器学习、三维空间音频和实时压缩，研究人员在 3D 成像、实时压缩和 3D 显示屏上取得了突破，远程交流的双方不需要眼镜或头戴式设备就能感受到仿佛有一个真人在触手可及的地方。目前 Project Starline 需要定制的硬件和高度专业化的设备，研究人员希望这项技术最终能让很多人负担得起。
