研究人员发现，Facebook、Instagram 和 Twitter 上有关 COVID-19 疫苗的假消息有 65% 来自于 12 个人。目前美国的疫苗接种进入到了一个关键阶段，绝大部分想要接种的成年人已经接种，还有更多的人抵制接种，这 12 个社媒网红对这一结果产生了巨大的影响。这 12 个人包括了反疫苗活动人士、另类健康创业家和医生，有一些人管理着多个账号，经常鼓吹“天然保健”。他们传播的信息包括否认 COVID-19 存在，否认疫苗能解决 COVID-19 疫情，谴责疫苗，谴责推荐疫苗的医生等。在报道之后，Facebook 表示它已经采取了行动关闭了 16 个账号，限制了另外 22 个账号。
