自新冠席卷全球以来，报告给世界卫生组织的流感病例降至了微乎其微的水平。流感病学家认为原因是旨在遏制新冠快速扩散的措施也能阻止流感扩散。流感的传播方式与新冠类似，但传染率没有新冠高。在 2020-21 流感季，美国有大约 600 人死于流感，相比较下上个流感季有 2.2 万人死亡，上上个流感季有 3.4 万人死亡。
