Spotify desktop users, rejoice. Spotify for desktop now allows you to download music albums for offline use. This lets you bring all your favorite albums to your machine, and listen to them without access to the internet.

Listen to Spotify Music Albums Offline

As mentioned on Spotify's support page, you can now download full music albums in the Spotify app on desktop. This feature is currently only offered to paid subscribers. If you're a free user, you can only download podcasts.

With this new feature, you'll be able to bring your Spotify albums where there's no internet connection. Your albums will play just fine without needing internet access.

How to Download Spotify Albums on a Computer

You must have the Spotify desktop app installed on your computer to download albums. You'll also need access to the internet when you first download an album.

To use this new feature:

  1. Open the Spotify app on your computer.
  2. Access the music album you want to download for offline use.
  3. Turn on the Download option to begin downloading the album.

Spotify downloads your selected albums in the Your Library section of the app. You can access this section and the albums within it without the internet.

You can force Spotify to play your downloaded albums instead of streaming them from the internet, when you're connected to the internet. To do this, click File > Offline Mode in the Spotify app on your computer.

Tips for Downloading Spotify Music Albums

There are a few things you should know when you download music albums in Spotify.

First, in order to preserve your downloaded content, you must go online in the Spotify app at least once every 30 days. Not doing so will lead Spotify to delete your downloaded albums.

Second, your computer should have enough storage to store the downloaded albums. Check this before you even begin to download anything. If there isn't enough space, consider cleaning up your computer.

Third, make sure your computer doesn't go into sleep mode when Spotify is downloading an album. If this happens, your download will likely fail.

Access Spotify Albums Offline

Spotify has so far allowed you to download and keep playlists for offline use. The newest addition to these downloadable contents is music albums. You can now download and keep your favorite albums locally in Spotify on your computer.
