Tencent Video, Alibaba's Youku Warn Short Video Platforms For Unauthorised Use of Their Content

Beijing (PingWest)- Chinese streaming video platform, which include video streaming platforms iQIYI, Tencent Video and Alibaba’s Youku, jointly issued a statement urging short video platforms and short video producers to seek authorisation before using any content, the Securities Times reported.

According to the statement, Chinese streaming video platform said they would take necessary legal action” against short video platform operators if they continually use content without authorization.

Livestreaming were among the few sector which has flourished during Covid-19 lockdowns. But public criticism is escalating about the behavior of some platforms, including sale of fake products, appearance of pornographic content, missing deliveries and shoddy after-sakes services.

Many livestreamers have used exaggerated or even false advertisement to boost product sales as they endorse third party products and service for a fee.

In November, Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) has drafted rules to regulate the country’s booming short video video and livestreaming industry

CAC required livestreamers to provide their real name identification to the livestreaming platform they contracted with. then the platforms will need to submit regular reports on livestreamers to local authorities.

Not only the livestreaming platforms will need to surprise the registration of each livestreaming, and livestreamers will be at least 16 years old to be qualified for the job unless they obtain consent from their legal guardian.
