Logitech has axed its Harmony remote lineup for good. There were a lot of speculations and rumors about Logitech killing its universal Harmony Remote, and the company has officially confirmed this.

Logitech Stops Production of Its Harmony Remotes

As TechHive first reported, Logitech will stop the production of its universal Harmony remotes effective immediately. In an announcement on Logitech's support page, the company says that Harmony remotes will continue to be available through various retailers until stocks last. Once stocks deplete though, Logitech does not plan to replenish them.

The announcement will not impact existing Harmony universal remote customers as Logitech plans to support them with regular software updates, apps, and more. The company will also continue to maintain Harmony's database and software with new devices.

We expect no impact to our customers by this announcement. We plan to support our Harmony community and new Harmony customers, which includes access to our software and apps to set up and manage your remotes. We also plan to continue to update the platform and add devices to our Harmony database. Customer and warranty support will continue to be offered.

Logitech Will Support Harmony Remotes as Long as Possible

If you are an existing Logitech Harmony remote owner, the main takeaway from Logitech's announcement here is that the company will continue to provide support, both in terms of hardware and software, "as long as customers are using it."

Google Assistant and Alexa integration for Harmony remotes for third-party services will also continue to work as intended. The warranty of your Harmony remote will also not be affected by this announcement.

Universal Remotes Have Become Irrelevant In a World of Smart Devices

Logitech Harmony remotes have long been considered the best universal remotes out there. However, as more and more Google Assistant and Alexa-compatible devices hit the market, consumer interest in universal remotes has dwindled. Logitech has not helped things by not releasing a new Harmony universal remote over the last few years.

Harmony first started selling universal remotes in 2001. Logitech then acquired the company in 2003. However, the company considered selling the Harmony division in 2013 due to relatively low sales numbers.

If you have always been interested in buying a Harmony universal remote, now might be a good time to do so. Logitech's announcement could lead retailers to sell their remaining Harmony remote inventory at deeply discounted prices.
