Back to overview 12 March 20213D LEGO workshop
This particular workshop was made by Steve, an experienced K-12 teacher who won the international NASA LEGO Moon to Mars design competition and built two models for the Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral (a Moon to Mars Transport System and NASA Mars Rover concept), and a Mars Rover for the Australian Space Industry. He used Studio 2.0 and Sketchfab to demo his models to NASA before building the physical LEGO models for them.
This workshop includes a link to a video tutorial to help students learn to create LEGO models, accompanied by a detailed workflow on exporting their creation as a 3D model and optimizing by converting it into an FBX file, then into Blender to decimate the face count and upload into Sketchfab for a smooth and engaging 3D / VR / AR experience—all using FREE software!
Sketchfab
We typically get students to create their 3D models on a PC / Mac and then upload them to Sketchfab to be viewed on smartphones (VR), iPads (AR), or Windows Mixed Reality on a PC.
We love how easy Sketchfab is to use. The functionality and capability of the 3D Editor, ability to use annotations/anchor points, 3D stereoscopic sound, making textures opaque, and, most of all, how simple it is to embed and include Sketchfab models into presentations, websites, blogs, etc.
If creating your own model sounds a bit daunting at first, you can even start with exploring Sketchfab’s huge library of content and include some of these models in your existing PowerPoints, eBooks, etc.
About
AwesomeClub is a not-for-profit community that delivers innovative and inspirational education content and programs based on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, Maths), getting both students and teachers to design their own 3D models with a focus on LEGO and Space curriculum/outcomes and then interact with them in VR / AR / MR. We also fight against bullying and have included a free emergency / anti-bullying app on our website.
Our aim is to inspire and develop the next generation of talent.
AwesomeClub is founded by Steve Iuliano and Joseph Toh, who have international experience in both running business and education programs and combined have been featured on TEDx, Forbes, BBC News, and ABC News. Joseph founded Singapore Fintech Association and is a leader in blockchain technology and security.
Looking ahead
AwesomeClub believes that 3D interaction, VR, and AR are the future of engagement in education, retail, and many commercial businesses. Highly interactive engagement leads to better learning, better retention, and better education outcomes, not to mention amazing experiences.
We are often told that our workshops are the ‘best day students have ever had at school’.
We would really appreciate it if you could visit our website and join our community. Good luck in building amazing models!
