An update on VMware Horizon 32-bit support

As endpoint manufacturers and OS vendors drop support for 32-bit architectures, we are updating our support matrices for Horizon 7 and Horizon 8

Horizon Agent

We will drop support for Windows 32-bit in our upcoming Horizon 8 agent release. Customers can continue to use Horizon 7 for Windows 10 32-bit support, or use the existing Horizon 8 2006 or 2012 agents.

Horizon Client for Windows

In our next release, Horizon will stop allowing the install of the 32-bit version of the Horizon Client on 64-bit hardware. For now, we will continue to support installing the 32-bit client code on a 32-bit version of Windows 10. However, Microsoft has dropped support for 32-bit Windows 10 for OEM vendors in May of 2020. Microsoft continues to support 32-bit Windows 10 for end users at this time, but as overall usage drops, VMware will also modify our support.

Horizon Client for Linux

Most major Linux distributions have dropped support for 32-bit.

  • Beginning with the Ubuntu 19.10 release, Ubuntu will only build selected 32-bit i386 packages.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x  and later only provide ISO images for 64-bit hardware and do not support installation on 32-bit hardware.

Based on this, we decided that starting with the coming release, VMware will not provide 32-bit i386 packages and will no longer support installation of Horizon Client for Linux on 32-bit devices.

If you want to install Horizon Client for Linux 32-bit package, you can download and install Horizon Client for Linux version 2006, 2012 or v5.5.

As always, please reach out with any questions.
