Editorial: A Sleepy Start to a New Year

Happy new year! Let’s hope and pray that 2021 is better than the train-wreck, dumpster-year year of 2020.

I am off to a slow start. Since New Years Eve, I have fallen into the lamentable habit of staying up until two or three in the morning, and then sleeping in until well past noon every day! In contrast to all the insomnia I suffered in 2020, I have been sleeping for twelve hours at a stretch on each the past three or four days! I guess I am catching up on some lost sleep.

Of course, all my best-laid plans for November and December have gone up in smoke. My apartment is still a Red Cross disaster area. My Valve Index VR kit (the replacement for my Oculus Rift) still sits in its FedEx box on my living room floor, unpacked and uninstalled. And my comprehensive list of social VR platforms and virtual worlds remains uncategorized, despite earlier promises to get it in order.

Now that Advent/Christmas is over, I will be taking a bit of a break from writing about Second Life on this blog (unless news of yet another fabulous freebie pops up, though!). It’s time for me to turn my attention to all the other social VR platforms and virtual worlds out there, and there’s no shortage of things to write about.

Although I am off to a slow, rather sleepy start this year, I expect 2021 to be another exciting year of events and developments in the ever-evolving metaverse!
