Manual provides step-by-step instructions for iPhone users

Apple has published a detailed guide on how to lock down an iPhone if private information is at risk, thus providing users with step by step instructions on what to do if they believe certain data might be exposed.

The long document includes everything from updating the iPhone to the latest iOS version, which Apple says is always the most secure, to protecting the Apple ID and checking the sharing settings that could eventually expose certain information.

“If you’d like to revisit what you share with other people, or restore your device’s original settings for any reason, this guide can help you understand what information you are sharing via your Apple devices, and how to make changes to protect your safety. It includes step-by-step instructions on how to remove someone’s access to information you’ve previously granted: from location data on the Find My app, to meetings you’ve scheduled via Calendar,” Apple says in the document,

“If you’re concerned that someone is accessing information you did not share from your Apple device, this guide will also help you identify risks, and walk you through the steps to help make the technology you rely on as private and secure as you want it to be.”

Deleting third-party apps and configuration profiles

In addition, the document also includes a checklist to help users determine if someone else has access to their accounts and or devices or if the location is exposed.

Apple recommends customers to delete unknown third-party apps and configuration profiles, as these could be used to violate the privacy of a user and collect certain information.

The document is available online, and for now, it’s only available in English, though versions in other languages could also be prepared for customers in other countries.
