It's that time of the year, when a bazillion technological presents are sitting under Christmas trees across the planet, and in some time zones have already been opened, whether placed there by Santa, yourself, parents or your chosen festive figure.
Whether you are receiving an iOS device, or one powered by Windows, whether it is activated by Android, or given life by Linux, whether it is a custom OS or a retro OS from years gone by, we hope you enjoy it with all your heart.
In this week that encompasses Christmas, Boxing Day and the rest of the year, we all hope to relax and recharge, to spend time with loved ones without familial angst, and we sincerely hope that 2021 brings us closer back to the normality that eluded us in 2020.
It's nearly 2021 – two decades since the turn of the millennium, and three to four decades since seminal shows like Towards 2000 and then Beyond 2000 made the then coming year 2000 seem so fantastic and futuristic, and yet which are now older than all the millennials now living on Planet Earth.
Those show's sci-fi predictions were sometimes right, sometimes wrong and fifty shades of grey somewhere in between.
Now, in late 2020, COVID-19 is still with us, but vaccines are too. Smartphones have become the most personal computers of all, with no smart glasses to make them obsolete as yet. Smart homes are ever smarter, but security grows in importance - 2020 saw the most cyber attacks on record, and sadly, this is unlikely to change in 2021.
Smart watches and wearables are huge categories too, smart speakers speak smartly in more homes than ever, and with screens to show as well as tell, while AR and VR sit on the cusp of the cup that floweth over - but Apple’s oft-rumoured glasses are the ones that the world is seemingly truly waiting for. What technological surprises will 2021 bring?
CES 2021 will provide the first glimpse. The Consumer Electronics Show is going virtual through sheer necessity, and we can but hope that CES 2022 will see a hybrid event back, with both in-person and virtual events to cater to as many people as possible.
We'll sadly see evil rear its ugly head, but always remember: there are more of us good people than the bad, we surround those who want to do us harm and we'll always fight for justice and peace and happiness and for what's right.
So... may you wholeheartedly enjoy this incredibly special and amazing time, may you hug your loved ones, may you love them and bless them with all that is good.
May God bless us all, and may you have the most amazing Christmas week and let’s hope the New Year 2021 is a true change for the better.
