The First Team - decentralize.today's Articles of the Year

The three memebers of the 'ed board' at decentralize.today are all sports minded...well, if you stretch from football to rugby to MMA, so when it came to choosing the 'article of the year' there was always going to be competition for places.

The compromise at which we arrived was to make multiple selections across multiple categories starting with our four principal areas of focus:

Decentralization - first up, we have choosen a section from the Privacy Cookbook that looks to the decentralization of eCommerce...the shape of things to come:

Privacy - next we reprise a piece from very early on in this very long year that highlights moves against democracy and individual privacy made in the Hong Kong SAR as detailed in Dadon's evocative article:

Blockchain - distributed ledger technology is older than Bitcoin...

Cryptocurrency - we often wrongly assume that everyone knows everything about everything or at least something about something but blockchain and cryptocurrencies by their nature are designed to be inclusive and fair but that is distorted when knowledge and understanding levels are uneven...so it is important that word spreads, is shared and that brings people in to the sphere....here in one of our rare 'Tweetstorm' series pieces, we attempted to add to the process...

Then given the impact both events have had on 2020, we added two additional categories:

Lockdown - we covered this in a number of articles ranging from how to work (or play) from home to staying safe when travelling to opportunistic increases in government mass surveillances programs under the guise of 'public health', but the winner was the Privacy Advocate's take on a great new weekend pastime...

U.S. General Election - wilful wildcard or meglomaniac maverick? Love him or hate him, John McAfee added some early color to the Presidential race...

Finally (almost) we wanted to celebrate the half decade (or so) that the blog has been running with our 'Article of the Decade'...this was a tough one but we all came down on the side of Miguel Cuneta's funky yet seminal piece on Bitcoin from...who knows! Still relevant...

And finally, finally...a special award for 'The One That Got Away!'...the article we wish we could have seen published in 2020...again after some debate (dreams of teams winning trophies etc) it must definitely go to the article announcing the public release of Particl's Open Marketplace V3...we're waiting...

Onwards to 2021, the best is yet to come!
