据Coindesk消息，12月28日，“用比特币支付工资”(Pay me in bitcoin)已成为美国国家橄榄球联盟球员Russell Okung的现实。据悉，Okung于2019年5月在推特上首次提出使用比特币支付工资的要求，这项协议是与比特币初创公司Zap达成的，Zap的Strike产品可以将传统的工资支票转换成比特币。Okung的1300万美元年薪的一半将以比特币支付。
