Recurring reviews to track the whole lifecycle of a product

Have you ever been annoyed about an Amazon review saying "Package arrived flawless after one day, 5 stars"?

I want to change the way people review products. We should review broken and almost worn-out products to teach how to identify cheap products (where are the stress points, what manufacturing techniques exist to alleviate those). Then compare those with used products well past their warranty period thatĀ hasn'tĀ broken, and look at why they haven't.

Our review form asks questions like "How often do you use the product?", "What's the condition?" or "Will you buy this again when it wears out?".

I'm now introducing "Recurring Reviews". After every year, the reviewer will receive an automatic reminder to assess the condition of the product and if the reviewer is still happy with it. This is how we can follow the whole lifecycle of a product.

Here is an example of how such a recurring review could look like:

If the reviewers would upload a picture with every review cycle, we would get an even better picture of the durability of the products. Imagine this:

What we are working on

After the initial launch on Reddit, we got a lot of valuable feedback. Here is the list of things that we plan to improve in the near future:

  • A new section in the review about the maintenance/upkeep of a product which later allows us to show information about what maintenance method/products worked best for which product. An additional feature would be displaying the maintenance costs.

  • Keeping a user base interested enough to continually update reviews by introducing:

    • Gamification/Karma system

    • Raffle a Buy For Life product or gift card every month

  • Preventing fake reviews by manual vetting each submission and introducing technical hurdles to prevent spam (i.e fakespot)

Let me know what you think! Any feedback is highly appreciated.

PS: Don't forget to submit your favorite product and try out the new recurring review feature :)
