Vectra AI, Baidam team to train cybersecurity specialists

A joint project between network detection and response vendor Vectra AI and Indigenous owned ICT consultancy Baidam Solutions aims to improve the supply of cybersecurity experts in Australia.
The Vectra/Baidam program provides First Nations' people with scholarships, education and technical skills to combat the rise in cyberattacks .
The shortage of skilled security staff has been thoroughly canvassed in recent years, and the COVD-19 pandemic hasn't helped the situation..
"We encourage more Indigenous people to enter the growing cybersecurity field through this partnership," said Vectra head of Asia-Pacific partner alliances Dee Clinton.
"This [will] ultimately help organisations across Australia build a stronger security infrastructure and protect critical data and assets from attackers."
Baidam Solutions CEO and co-founder Phillip Jenkinson said the partnership with Vectra will help customers reduce their cyber risk, and support greater Indigenous participation in the cyber economy.
Baidam Solutions' Baidam Initiative uses a significant percentage of the company's profits to provide pathways to employment in the ICT security sector for First Nations people and to help enterprise customers meet their Reconciliation Action Plan goals.
"Another current commitment under the Baidam Initiative is to dramatically increase Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders' involvement in the Australian information security sector," said Jenkinson.
"We will do this through our university Indigenous STEM scholarship programs and our ICT cyber industry certification funding. This in turn will create more inclusive, capable and diverse role models that our sector needs and will drive our national economy forward."
