Hey guys!

just picked up a 2020 MacBook Pro base model upgraded to 16gb ram. Loving it so far!

I know this question has been asked but how do you charge your MacBook? My previous one I always topped off at 100% (never plugged in all day) and the battery swelled up and life cycle was way down.

my iPhone X (release day) is down to 78% and I charge all night long everyday.

should I try to limit my MacBooks charges from 20-80% only? I never am far away from a plug that I need 100% ever in reality.

thanks for any help!

Absolutely, I use a free app called AlDente to limit the battery charge to 80% on my MacBook Pro.
Once it's installed, you need to reboot after setting your limit. Then you're free to leave the computer plugged in as long as you like.

Awesome thanks! How’s your capacity after using this?

also if I want to remove just uninstall and everything goes back to normal?

Capacity after ~3 months of using AlDente. I limit my charge to 65%. Every week I remove the limit, charge to 100, drain to 10-20% and then place the limit again to maintain calibration. Love this tool.

Model is MBP 13" 2020 i5/16ram

I’m going to download this too, at least until Big Sur comes out. Let me know how it works for you.

bringing this thread up again. I have the base model 13in. Is your status icon black? It seems like its working but not sure.

Also, what's the proper way to uninstall?

My battery capacity is actually still above 100% (approx 103%). should I set to 103 then uninstall? do I need to reset SMC after?

sorry for all the questions.

The icon becomes white and stops charging (it says Power Source: Power Adapter when that happens).

Once you install AlDente - reboot your mac. Then set it to a percentage (like 60 or whatever) and it should start working. If your battery level is above that number, it still should not charge and remain there.

You don't need to do an SMC reset after uninstalling but if you want, it won't hurt. Resetting SMC will reset this limit to the original one. That could be a good idea actually because AlDente says '103' at max but you can't set that manually once you change it. You can only set it back to 100. SMC will reset it fully and properly.

Broko it seems to be working. However, I’m talking about the actual al dente logo in status bar (spaghetti) it’s a black silhouette

Also, to uninstall just delete from applications?

Oh I see, I'm using a black OS theme:

For deleting, yeah just delete it and then do an SMC reset to go back to completely default settings and be sure about it.

I use an app called "AppCleaner" to delete related files. Just drop the app in it and delete any other folders/files related.

Also, if you plan to use a limiter for long periods of time - remember to do a 20-100% cycle (or something like that, a deep cycle) once a week to maintain calibration.

I installed Charge Limiter on my 2013 mbp and AlDente on my 2018, and after a few months, both displayed the Battery Service Recommended warning. I removed Charge Limiter on the 2013, and after a few full charge, discharge to 10-20% cycles, the warning went away (w/o having to reset SMC). However, on the 2018, the warning just won't go away even after 3 full cycles. I've removed AlDente, the helper tool, and reset the SMC. System info shows capacity very close to design (within 50mAh). It's a new battery installed in June of this year.

Anyone else experience this and figured out how to fix?
