Galaxy S10 June security update adds QR code scanning to camera app

The Galaxy S10 lineup started receiving an update with the June 2019 security patch in Hong Kong and China (where the Snapdragon model is sold) a few days ago, and Samsung has now released the update for the international Exynos model, with the rollout kicking off in Switzerland today. And as we had been expecting, the newest Galaxy S10 update adds a QR code scanner to the camera app.

When the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 received an update with a dedicated camera Night mode like the Galaxy S10, it was discovered that they also gained a new camera feature that wasn’t available on the Galaxy S10 trio: the ability to scan QR codes by simply pointing the camera at one. The feature has now arrived for the Galaxy S10 lineup as part of the June security update. If you own a Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+, you will no longer need to download a third-party app or use Bixby Vision to scan QR codes.

No other new features on board

You will also find a quick toggle for the QR scanner in the notification shade; tapping that toggle will open the camera app for you. There don’t seem to be any other new features in the latest update, although we’re not going to complain about that as we can’t expect new functionality with every software update. And don’t forget: Security updates are just as important, and Galaxy S10 owners will now be secure against all the vulnerabilities that were discovered last month.

The latest update – software version G97*FXXU2ASF3 – should become more widely available in the coming days; you can see if it’s out for you by opening the Settings app on your phone, selecting Software update, then selecting the Download and install option. You can also install the new update manually by downloading the related firmware from our database.

Have you received the June 2019 security update on your Galaxy S10e, S10, or S10+ yet?
